Dan Murphy

Board Member | Department of Workforce Services, Housing & Community Development

Dan Murphy brings a career rooted in public service and hands-on leadership within Utah's housing ecosystem. He currently serves in the Department of Workforce Services, Housing and Community Development Division, supporting the Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund—a critical state resource for affordable housing.

Dan has built a reputation for operational turnaround and strategic execution. During the pandemic, he was tasked with stabilizing a faltering mortgage assistance program that was nearly a year behind. Within three months, he relaunched the program in partnership with a local community organization, restoring its impact for Utah families.

His commitment to this mission is personal as well as professional. Having purchased his home before the rapid price escalation of recent years, Dan recognizes how easily many Utahns—friends, family, and future generations—have been priced out of the same opportunity. He believes affordable homeownership is essential to household stability, community resilience, and the long-term economic health of the state.

Dan's background includes extensive collaboration with developers, CHDOs, nonprofits, and municipal partners. He has helped draft bill language and implement roughly a dozen legislative appropriations for housing programs, giving him a strong understanding of both state policy and on-the-ground execution.

Outside of work, Dan enjoys trail running, gardening, and exploring national parks—especially the Grand Tetons, where he proposed to his wife. He's an avid reader and podcast listener, always collecting bits of information he hopes will one day pay off at trivia night.
